MEDITATION: In the beginning, God!
Last Sunday was Trinity Sunday. When I think of it and look back I see and hear many conversations have created a sense of consternation about this subject. It has been an unfortunate battle. For this moment I am going to bypass it and draw your attention to an overwhelming thought. In the beginning…God. That is the sum of thoughts that is needed to focus our lives.
Many years ago my life was being torn from every direction. When it came to Sunday Morning I needed something to focus. Each morning the choir at worship began with the hymn, Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God almighty. Instantly life was brought back into focus. Everything was put into perspective.
The coming week was ordered and the holy nature of God was lifted up. It is a subject that then roamed through the corridors of my mind. A German scholar named Rudolph Otto wrote a book about this. In it he speaks of the tremendous mystery of God that is then revealed. Another author, A.W. Tozer wrote on The Knowledge of the Holy. Both authors, coming from massively different backgrounds concluded in the same place. God is holy and in the revelation of this holiness comes a call to be holy as God is holy.
I look back and see that last Sunday was Trinity Sunday. So much energy has gone into defining it and breaking it apart. Today please take time to put it back together and see the one true living God. Discover the holiness that is God. Walk in that holiness. Meditate upon it and be holy as God is holy.
